Music Opens Doors

I talked with a piano student the other day who had an unusual experience during his vacation. Without his work at practicing piano, it would not have been nearly as  interesting, or unusual.

He vacationed in a major US city, and happened to stay next door to a newscaster from a major Station. (think three capital letters!) The family invited him over one day and found out he could play the piano. "A little" he told them.

He wowed them with a difficult piece he'd worked very hard on last year, and  endeared himself enough to get a visit to the newsroom, and pal around with them all summer.

I asked him if while he was practicing last year he could have had any idea what doors all his hard work might open up for him. You just never know...

Miffed

I'm miffed.

My husband is a gifted keyboardist who makes up beautiful, haunting, romantic melodies all the time. Record it! I demand. It's beautiful, and we're going to lose it if you don't save it.  He plays on, enjoying the sounds he's carving out of thin air. Of course he does record some, in fact, he has three albums out already.www.jimmaris.com

But it's never enough for me!

And then I find myself writing fantastic, amazing (okay, maybe I get a little carried away here) stories and many of them don't get written down either...yet.

It is so easy to get in a twist over what other people do, and we give ourselves oh, so much leeway!

I think I'll listen next time, and enjoy the music. After all, when he plays, I'm inspired to write. And write I will.

green

My new favorite color of this summer is green. Electric, lime, melon, popsicle, caterpillar, new grass green.

It just makes me feel happy, alive, growing and as if my whole world is awash in nature!

I wear it, put curtains up in  it, paint things with it, make hats out of it, eat it (cucumbers, don't get gross) write things about it, and celebrate the power of all things green.

Oswald Chambers said, "God is behind all things green and growing."

Maybe I'll get tired of it. But probably not.
